When I write, I mainly do it for me. This was my motto and method of creation. As time as gone by, I now want to represent the groups of characters that I didn't have growing up. Being a gay black was not popular and still isn't. Many people in the LGBT community are not represented. So to do my part, I want to create characters I am proud of and show other sides of mankind. For one, black people are not a trope or something to fill a quota. This made me mad growing up. Now POC make up 40% or more on mainstream network television. This wasn't the case thirty years ago, so small step toward progress. I want more. Yes, I am greedy. We want more. We want to see a gay black superhero. I want to see a black business owner. A lesson I learned long ago, if you don't see the change in the world you want, BE IT. Did you read that? Read it again. Be it! I create what I want to see. No, I am not the authority on every community or group, or subgroup. I ask questions and ask more. This is the key to sociology, anthropology, and psychology. Ask those difficult, uncomfortable questions. When you do, you dig deeper for yourself and the world. This is my goal. To see the world and reflect it. Not the now, but the tomorrow I want to see. The tomorrow is a new day. A day for change. I am happy to try and tell other's stories, but I also want to see others do the same. Like Katnis Everden, be the spark for others. It takes one to see something, and change it to inspire others. Keep inspiring by addressing the concerns you have.
